HertSquad Lockdown FAQs

Thursday 5 November, 2020

Unfortunately, following the Government announcement on Saturday, we can confirm that the delivery of in-person HertSquad activity is not permitted over the lockdown period from Thursday 5th November to Wednesday 2nd December. This means that all in-person Active Students, Campus Sport, Athletic Union and Performance Sport sessions on campus are cancelled during these 4 weeks.

Please see FAQs below regarding our HertSquad programmes during a national lockdown:

Will there be a virtual offering for Active Students?

Although our in-person sessions across both campuses are cancelled, you can still stay active with our extensive programme of virtual sessions. Head to www.activestudents.co.uk for our timetable and stay tuned with our social media for extra challenges that we are planning for you!

Will I be refunded my Campus Sport (Football/Netball) entry fees for the remainder of our league?

We will ensure that students are not left out of pocket for the period of activity missed. All Captains have been credited with a pro-rata amount based on the number of weeks of activities.  Credits can be refunded via the Hertfordshire Sports Village Customer Services Team by calling 01707 284466 between 11:00-13:00 Monday-Friday or in person once the Sports Village reopens.

Alternatively, credits may be used for our Semester B programme.

How do I access my Campus Sport deposit?

The HertSquad Office at Hertfordshire Sports Village on the de Havilland Campus will be open on Wednesday 2nd December between 09:00-17:00 and Thursday 3rd December between 09:00-16:00. During these times cash deposits can be collected by the same student who originally paid it to the HertSquad Team only. Students should notify hertsquad@herts.ac.uk if they would like someone else to collect on their behalf. Deposits will not be returned to others without prior notification. Student ID cards will need to be shown upon collection.

Full deposits will only be returned to Campus Football teams providing all 10 bibs are returned. The non-return of a full set of bibs will result in a £10 reduction from the original deposit amount.

Will I be refunded my Athletic Union/Performance Sport fees for the 4 weeks I will miss?

We will ensure that students are not left out of pocket for the period of activity missed. Once our Club’s restart dates are confirmed post-lockdown, we will communicate how memberships will be reimbursed or rolled over to Semester B.

Are off-site Athletic Union sessions still running?

All Athletic Union activities are cancelled including any activities that usually take place off-Campus.

Can I still book courts and pitches as a Performance Sport athlete?

No, Hertfordshire Sports Village is closed to the general public (including students) so all facilities are out of action.

Is S&C training still going ahead for Performance Sport athletes?

Performance Herts will be closed to the general public which includes our Performance Sport student sessions. Using the TeamBuildr app, the S&C coaches will be providing adapted training programmes for our Performance Sport athletes to complete at home. All students that have a valid HertSquad Performance Sport membership will be contacted by the coaches with this information.

Follow the Performance Herts team across their social media channels for additional training support and updates: Instagram - @PerformanceHerts, Facebook @PerformanceHerts, Twitter - @PerformHerts

If I am an elite athlete, can I still use the Performance Herts gym as part of the elite sport exemption?

Elite Sport is exempt from the lockdown restrictions regarding training and competition. If this exemption applies to you, you will need a letter from your NGB Covid Officer confirming your status. Contact Performance Herts with this information and you will be considered for access to the facility.

Will HertSquad sessions resume immediately on Thursday 3rd December?

We will continually review Government guidance regarding the resumption of sport and physical activity, and will provide updates on the restart of all HertSquad programmes in due course.

How can I stay active throughout lockdown?

You can still stay active in the next 4 weeks with HertSquad and the Hertfordshire Sports Village. For a mixture of pre-recorded and live virtual activity, head to www.activestudents.co.uk and HSV@Home, and stayed tuned with our social media!
