Active Staff are running a 10 week learn to run course. These sessions are fun, relaxed and aimed at complete beginners – we welcome staff with no prior running experience!

Please see some FAQ’s below:

I think I'm too unfit, or too slow...

The learn to run course is designed to be accessible to adults of all fitness levels, but please let us know in advance if you have an underlying medical condition so we are aware. It is broadly based on the NHS 'Couch to 5K' programme, so we deliberately work up from a gentle start so you can increase your fitness and get used to jogging in a safe, supportive environment. This isn't competitive and no-one will ever be left behind.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and can move easily. We recommend you wear trainers / sturdy shoes.

What should I bring with me?

Only bring things you can carry with you. We encourage personal responsibility and self-sufficient running, so if you bring water bottles or spare layers, you'll need to carry them. Many people find they don't need extra water for 45 minutes, but if you would like to bring some then choose a water bottle which is comfortable in the hand. Due to the time of the year and the light we strongly recommend to wear either a headtorch or a chest torch (not handheld) if you have one, and ideally wear something hi-viz.

Is there anywhere to get changed and showered before and after these sessions?

Of course, all participants are welcome to use the changing and showering facilities at the sports village, even if you are not a member!

I am unable to come for the first week, but can I start the course in week 2?

Of course, you can! New participants are welcome up until week 3. The reason for this is that it is a progressive course and therefore don’t want you to miss any key information.

Where do the learn to run sessions start?

We will meet in the Sports Village reception.

When are the sessions?

Every Monday night from 9 March to 18 May 17:30 – 18:15. Although there will be no session on the Easter Bank Holiday Monday of 13 April.

How many people will be in the group?

We want to ensure that it is a personal experience for everyone and learn lots so there is a maximum capacity of 11! Therefore, we will operate a first come first served basis!

I have never run before and scared I will be left behind...

Our promise to you is that we will never leave you behind! Our Activator will be at the back of the group, so the good news is you will never be last.
