Active Students Pilates

Monday 14 March, 2022

Pilates is one of the staple sessions on the Active Students programme. It takes place on Tuesday’s and Friday’s on College Lane campus. Come along for a great session of exercise!

What are the benefits of Pilates sessions?
Pilates is practised by many around the UK, and is a very popular recreational form of physical activity and exercise. It offers substantial benefits for your physical health by increasing flexibility, balance and strength. People who do Pilates on a regular basis have experienced improvements in their joint and muscle health, along with a general fix in their posture. Especially the posture weaknesses from sitting at a desk all day can be fixed over time by doing Pilates. The strengthening of core muscles as a result of Pilates benefit you in the long term by stabilising and supporting your spine.

Furthermore, Pilates has the potential to positively impact your mental health. By engaging in certain moves, you learn to control your breathing. Breathing plays a vital role in keeping our tranquillity in the face of everyday struggles. Also, the impact of physical wellbeing on your mental wellbeing is substantially important.

Who can come along to the sessions?
While Pilates may not be an easy form of activity for beginners, our activators are there to support you during the session. We welcome people from any fitness level or skill level to join. If you have any questions about Pilates, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We would be happy to help.

What should you wear for the session?
All participants should wear comfortable, breathable athletic clothing to participate in the session. You must bring your UH ID cards. Don’t forget your water bottle, too! It’s important to stay hydrated during participation.

We look forward to seeing you at Pilates sessions every week!
