Active Students Women's Sports Sessions

Monday 7 March, 2022

To celebrate International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8 March, we are focusing on women’s sports sessions on our Active Students programme. There are multiple sports in our programme specifically focussed on women's participation and health. These sessions include Women’s Hour, Female Only Football, This Girl Can Weight Training and many more that you can attend!

Sport participation and physical activity is very important for women. If you haven’t been to any of our sessions before, there are a number of options you can choose to start. Our activators are there to help you out, teach you the details of the sport and assist you whenever needed. Sport and physical activity increase cardiovascular health, and at the same time strengthens your body. Women who play sports experience more flexibility and agility. Furthermore, you can burn a lot of calories compared to just jogging or cycling because of the different motions your body goes through during these sports.

What are the benefits of our Women's Sports sessions?
On top of the physical benefits, sport can have an immense impact on your mental health. Joining group sports sessions is highly beneficial for your mental health. There have been many studies indicating how engaging in physical activity in groups can improve mental health. Physical activity helps release feel-good hormones that improve your mood, give you more energy throughout the day and provide you with the mental clarity you seek.

Who can come along to the sessions?
Whether you are a beginner or have played any of these sports before, you can get involved. We welcome women from any background, fitness level and skill level to join us. Women’s sports sessions aren’t a competition or challenge, they are merely participatory events to get you active and engaging in fun sports. Any questions you might have about the sessions or if you need assistance, our activators will be there to assist throughout the scheduled sessions. You can also contact us, we would be happy to help.

What should you wear for the sessions?
Participants should wear comfortable, breathable clothing and trainers. All participants must bring their UH ID cards to be able to join the session. Also, don’t forget to bring your water bottle, it’s important to stay hydrated during your exercise sessions!

We look forward to seeing you at our Women’s sports sessions every week!
